Car insurance

My car depreciates in value, why does my premium stay the same?

When we review your premium, we do look at the depreciated value of your car. However, the majority of claims are for accidents and not write-offs or even stolen cars. In light of this, the cost of repairs plays quite a big part in our premium calculation. Unfortunately, the cost of repairs and parts also increase in line with inflation.

Can I choose where to repair my vehicle?

As part of our very high quality standards, we prefer to have your car repaired at one of our approved panel of repairers. All these repairs are also guaranteed for 12 months. However, if you feel strongly about this, you can contact us to arrange for the repairs to be done by someone else. However, we will not be able to guarantee the quality of their work as what we’re able to do for our own list of service providers.

Youi excess payments

What does the basic excess refer to?

Your basic excess is the first amount payable by yourself, even if the accident was not your fault. This amount is payable to the service provider.

What is the difference between the basic excess and the additional excess?

Your basic excess amount is the fixed amount that is payable by yourself in the event that a claim is settled. You can either choose the default basic excess amount or you can increase this amount to have the benefit of paying a lower premium. Please refer to your schedule to confirm your basic excess amount. An additional excess only applies if any of a pre-determined set of criteria are met (e.g. if you submit a claim during the first 90 days of your policy). Your additional excess is payable on top of your basic excess. Your additional excess amount cannot be increased to pay a lower premium. A maximum of two additional excess payments can be applied at any time. Please refer to the excesses page for more information.

Is there a benefit if I select a higher voluntary excess?

This will give you the benefit of a lower premium.

If I'm not at fault in an accident, why must I pay an excess?

You are always liable for the excess since we do not place blame as criteria in order to determine whether you need to pay an excess or not. We do however immediately initiate the excess recovery process from the guilty party and will refund your excess if we are successful with the recovery.
