Youi Excesses

Your basic excess

You’re most welcome to increase your excess amount to enjoy a lower monthly premium. We’ll try our best to help you find an excess structure that will suit your budget just perfectly.

You can also choose to have the default excess applied in case of a claim. The choice is yours.

Please refer to your policy or schedule for more detailed information on the basic excess amounts you’ve chosen and that will be applied in case of a claim. If you have any policy-related queries, you’re most welcome to contact us on 086 000 9684 (YOUI) – we’ll gladly assist.

Additional excesses

There are five additional excesses that may come into play. If any of the below criteria are met, an additional excess of R3 500 is payable on top of your basic excess amount. Your additional excess amount cannot be changed in order to pay a lower premium. If more than two additional excess criteria are met, a maximum of two additional excess payments will apply (i.e. R7 000).

However, if you apply a few basic principles, none of these excesses need ever apply to you. We suggest you avoid lending your car to anyone but your spouse (especially not someone who’s had their license for less than two years).

And – if you think about it – what are the chances of you having the same type of accident twice in the same year? Also, it’s kind of hard to cause an accident in the middle of the night when there are no other parties involved, unless you crash into a tree, of course.

The table below details all instances where an additional excess amount may come into play:

Single vehicle accident at night You have an accident between 20:00 in the evening and 05:00 in the morning where no other party is involved Vehicle and motorcycle
Claim in the first 90 days from the start of your policy If you submit a claim 90 days from the date when you joined us All Risks, except Personal Accident
More than one claim of the same type in a year All claim types are grouped as follows: damage (per product – i.e. contents, buildings, All Risk), theft, windscreen, liability and geysers. If you therefore submit two geyser claims in the same year, the additional excess will apply All Risks, except Personal Accident
Jewellery not locked in a safe during a theft or robbery If you do not lock away your jewellery safely and this gets stolen Contents
Incident driver not regular driver and not your partner or spouse In case of accident claims where the incident driver is not the regular driver and also not the regular driver’s partner or spouse Vehicle and motorcycle
Incident driver had license for less than two years and is not the regular driver If the incident driver in an accident is not the regular driver and he/she had a driver’s license for less than two years Vehicle and motorcycle
